He has over 35 years extensive industry experience (including 15 years as a barrister, arbitrator and mediator). He is an advocate of the strength based Appreciative Inquiry approach to improvement.

He continues to offer services in a variety of commercial negotiating scenarios and as a mediator.

In his current role both as President of ISPI and with the RTO (Logistics Training International) he likes to bring the spotlight onto what he calls the “people factor”.

John has conducted Negotiating skills workshops since 1991 and is an advocate of the “win win” (NONZERO) approach – wherever possible.

John has a keen interest in all forms of learning and is particularly interested in positive approaches such as Positive Deviance, Appreciative Inquiry and “strengths focussed” development [For more information about Appreciative Inquiry visit: www.appreciativeinquiry.net.au]. This is because he believes that these approaches are all part of the “new way of thinking”and learning that will be the formative influence in the optimal business and personal (leadership) improvement and development strategies of the 21st century. John believes that leadership development is a function of values development. These positive approaches necessarily involve consideration of our values.

A favourite quote: “The wise man organises Society so that, like a plant, all of its parts cooperate together, for the benefit of the whole.” Confucius understood the people side of any organisation.

In April 2005 John convened and chaired Australia’s first online Conference on Appreciative Inquiry See www.ispisydney.org.au/Conference/ see also http://ai.cwru.edu

John consults and conducts workshop style presentations on Appreciative Inquiry and Strategic Planning using the SOAR approach.
