Sean Mack

Sean Mack has more than twenty-five years experience working in organisational development and improvement, and provides consulting services in these areas. His professional background in these areas also includes relevant academic studies and membership of expert networks.

Sean began his “first career” working in the not-for-profit sector, including being the Executive Director of a state-level peak organisation in the community sector in New South Wales (NSW). Following this, Sean began a new career working for 14 years in various in-house consulting roles in public sector organisations. He held senior specialist positions in quality management, corporate and strategic planning, management development, and human resources, as well as roles in administration and executive level management. The diverse range of organisations in which he worked encompassed public administration; environmental planning; water resources; WorkCover; community services; and education and vocational training.

In these positions, Sean’s successes included the design and implementation of management development programs, strategic planning and performance review systems, organisational change and development initiatives, total quality management and other quality programs, and facilitating award winning quality teams and other change projects. From 1995 to 1999, Sean was the Chair of the NSW Public Sector Quality Network – a support and learning network of quality managers and practitioners in all three tiers of government in NSW (i.e. local, state and commonwealth).

Sean currently works in his own consultancy, the Organisational Improvement Network (OIN), which he established in 1999. OIN is a network-based consultancy specialising in organisational improvement and development. It is a partnership of two principal consultants, Sean and his wife Janet Green, who also work with associate consultants on a project-by-project basis.

Since moving into private consulting, Sean has continued with similar work and has expanded to include quality assessment, organisation reviews and strategic change processes. An extensive area of Sean’s activity has been accreditation auditing for residential aged care facilities, with a particular emphasis on assessing their management systems, people processes and continuous improvement.

OIN is currently undergoing a revamp of its direction and image, with a change of name to Core Directions Consulting (a work in progress). The purpose in the change is to reflect a renewed focus on helping organisations move forward by drawing on their core – their core beliefs, values, purpose and strengths. This will involve utilising a range of OIN’s existing capabilities including culture assessments and values-based change processes.

Sean lives in Sydney in a house full of women – his partner Janet, his 10-year old daughter Laura and the family cat, Socksie (who is found on Sean’s lap most nights!). Sean has an older daughter, Holly, a university student who also lives in Sydney.
